All of his other workshops are now fully booked. The 8 November event at the Faculty of Biology in Sofia, added as an additional location, is a new opportunity for students and teachers to join.

A new opportunity: 8 November at the Faculty of Biology

  • When: 8 November 2026 (Sunday), from 16:00
  • Where: Faculty of Biology, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Sofia
  • Language: English, with translation into Bulgarian provided

We look forward to an inspiring, hands-on afternoon with you!

Who is Ed Moriarty?

Dr. Ed Moriarty is an iconic instructor at the Edgerton Center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He leads legendary engineering design courses and summer schools for MIT first-year students and high school students, and trains teachers around the world. Ed is a global ambassador for the “Mind and Hand” philosophy – learning through inquiry, experimentation, teamwork, and building real, practical projects.

Why is he here?

Ed returns at the invitation and initiative of Hristo Ovcharov (Boston), with the support of the Sci High Foundation and Reneta Bogdanova. His goal is to once again spark an interest in hands-on science and engineering among Bulgarian students and teachers, showing how learning can be fun, interactive, and accessible to everyone.

In his work with students and teachers, Ed puts three things at the centre:

  • Curiosity – asking questions and exploring possibilities;
  • Collaboration – sharing ideas and learning from one another;
  • Learning by doing – designing, building, experimenting, and discovering through hands-on experience.

This time, the initiative is about more than individual workshops. Its long-term vision is to help build lasting STEM communities by connecting schools, universities, teachers, students, and mentors around a shared passion for learning and innovation.

The other workshops – fully booked

For completeness, here are Ed’s other November workshops. Registration for them is no longer possible.

  • 6 November (Friday) – SoftUni Buditel, Sofia. The school is now home to Praktifun, the first club in Bulgaria run entirely by students, inspired by similar clubs in Italy and Spain mentored directly by Ed, and realised in partnership with the Sci High Foundation.
  • 9 November (Monday) – Professional High School of Agriculture “Stefan Tsanov”, Knezha.
  • 10 November (Tuesday) – 75th Secondary School “Todor Kableshkov”, Sofia.

Thank you

A big thank-you to the Bulgarian schools, universities, educational organisations, and community partners helping make this initiative possible: the Sci High Foundation, the American College of Sofia, Teach For Bulgaria, the National STEM Center, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 75th Secondary School “Todor Kableshkov” in Sofia, the Professional High School of Agriculture “Stefan Tsanov” in Knezha, SoftUni Buditel, the Technology School “Electronic Systems” associated with the Technical University of Sofia, the Faculty of Biology of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, and many others.

Together, we can turn inspiring educational experiences into sustainable STEM communities.
