Donation Terms
These Donation Terms (the “Terms”) govern the acceptance of monetary donations by the Sci-High Foundation (the “Foundation”, “we”) through the public website sci-high.org — by card, through employer matching, or by bank transfer.
The effective date is shown at the top of this page. Every donation is governed by the version of the Terms in force at the time it is made; a later change does not affect donations already made.
The Bulgarian-language version of these Terms is the authoritative legal text. This English version is provided for reference. In case of discrepancy, the Bulgarian text prevails.
1. Who receives the donation

The Foundation is a non-profit legal entity designated to carry out activities for the public benefit. Donations support the Sci-High science festivals and the educational work around them.
2. The nature of a donation
Your donation is voluntary and unconditional. No goods, services, membership, access or other benefit is given in return.
This is also the text you explicitly confirm when paying by card, before the payment is made.
In other words: a donation is not a purchase and not a payment for anything. It gives you no right to take part, no advantage in taking part, no access to an event, no advertising, no public acknowledgement, and no other benefit of any kind. The Foundation takes on no obligation in return beyond using the funds for its purposes.
The amount is entirely yours to decide.
3. One-time and monthly donations
A one-time donation is made once, in the amount you chose.
A monthly donation means the amount you chose is charged to your card once a month until you stop it. There is no minimum term, no commitment to a number of payments and no total amount you have undertaken to give. Each monthly payment is a separate donation and section 2 applies to it in full.
A monthly donation is not a subscription — you receive no service, content or membership in return for it.
⚠ Payments are processed by Stripe. On Stripe’s own screens and emails — outside the Foundation’s website — a recurring payment may be called a “subscription”, because that is what the technical mechanism is called there. That is a name for the payment method, not for the relationship between you and the Foundation: nothing is provided in return for a monthly donation.
4. Stopping a monthly donation
A monthly donation can be stopped at any time, without giving a reason.
Write to us at [email protected] — we will stop the donation and confirm by email.
Stopping ends future payments. It does not affect donations already made — returning those is a separate matter, covered in section 7.
5. Payment methods
- By card — the payment is made on the secure pages of the payment provider. Your card details never pass through the Foundation’s website.
- Through your employer — if your company matches charitable donations, the Foundation accepts donations through GlobalGiving and Benevity.
- By bank transfer — the Foundation’s bank details are published on the Support page.
6. Fees
The donation is the full amount you gave. The payment provider’s fee is an expense of the Foundation and is not deducted from your donation for accounting purposes — the Foundation’s records show the donation at its gross amount and the fee as a separate expense.
A bank transfer carries no payment-provider fee. For larger gifts it is usually the most efficient route; any bank charges depend on the tariffs of the banks involved.
7. Refunds
The Foundation has no automated procedure for returning donations. If you would like your donation returned, write to [email protected] stating the date and the amount. We consider each request individually and aim to handle it within 30 days of receiving it. {{TODO — confirm the period with a lawyer}}
This is a description of how we work, not a publicly undertaken obligation to refund within a fixed period.
Stopping a monthly donation is separate from returning a donation and requires no such request — it ends future payments, while donations already made remain (section 4).
8. Donation document
The Foundation issues a donation document on request. Write to [email protected] from the email address used for the donation, or state the date and the amount.
A donation document needs your name as it is written in Cyrillic. Card payment supplies the name in Latin script, so when donating by card you can supply your name in Cyrillic at the time of the donation — filling it in is enough for us to know that you would like a document. The field is optional and is not a condition of the donation being accepted.
9. Tax relief
Bulgarian tax law provides, under certain conditions, for tax relief on donations made to non-profit legal entities designated to carry out activities for the public benefit.
The Foundation issues a document for the donation on request (section 8). The Foundation does not assess or confirm whether a particular donation qualifies for relief, or to what extent — that depends on your own tax position. Please consult your accountant or tax adviser.
10. Personal data
The processing of personal data connected with a donation is described in the Privacy Policy — what we process, on what basis, who receives it and for how long.
Your bank card details are neither processed nor stored by the Foundation. The name in Cyrillic, if you provide it, is used solely to issue the donation document and for the Foundation’s accounting records.
